Last week at the Institute of Internal Communications awards, CAKE Communications was honoured alongside the Technology team at National Gas with an Award of Excellence in the Best Change / Transformation Campaign for our work on the National Gas Technology Separation programme. While the recognition itself is something to be proud of (and celebrate we did), what it really reminded me of is just how powerful recognition can be in driving engagement and connection within organisations.
Whether during a business transition, a change programme, or even in the everyday flow of work, recognition is consistently cited as one of the most important levers for success. At its heart, it’s about something deeply human: the need to feel seen and valued. When people are recognised for their contributions, it creates momentum, strengthens trust, and fuels the energy needed to move through change together. Recognition doesn’t have to be grand—it just has to be genuine. And when it is, it becomes one of the simplest, yet most powerful, drivers of engagement.
Congratulations to A Better Heathrow by British Airways which was the winner on the night.
And again, a big thank you to my team at CAKE Communications for their work on this programme, and to National Gas Technology for trusting us to deliver the change communications programme for them.
